.1. The story plays on human fears by introducing the worst of those fears being fulfilled at the beginning of the tale. Why does the image of the dying dog seem to end all human hope?

In this story the house seems to not let any unfamiliar things come in. It carefully inquires questions like,''who goes there? and "whats the password? Even ignoring animals whining from outside, but once the house hears the whine of the dog it recognizes its voice and opens. I could only assume the dog must have lived there and been the family pet. The dog represents the closest thing to the family that once lived in the house and plays the role of the only surviving member. Yet all of a sudden the dog is all bones and covered with sores, barely staying alive without the help of humans. Once the dog died it feels like the end of the human race or society. Theres nobody left to live in the house, but the house itself and its items. The humans are gone and the technology of this home has kept it alive and moving.

  2. Question # 1: The image of the dying dog seem to end all human hope is because n the short story the house didn't allow just any and anything to enter. They had seemed to ask a series of questions in order to allow you to enter. But as you can see the voice of the dogs bark and wine allowed itself to remember and recognize them and open the door. But from the way the dog interacts with house it makes it seem like the dog had its family there .Its like the dog belonged to the house it was a symbol that reminded him of an old family living their. The dog later on died and had no one to take ownership of him or the house. So that home has stayed their with antiques .

    1. I agree Danielle. The dog seemed to be a family pet because other animals, such as the bird, were not able to even allowed land on the house. Also, the synthetic life in this story out lasted the organic life. To me, that shows either the owners intended the house to last for their descendants, or that humans thought so far ahead that they couldn't take care of themselves in the present.

  3. Questions on Meaning
    1. What is the significance of a house that can withstand destruction and humans who cannot? Why does the house survive?

I believe the image of the dieing dog ends all human hope because you can picture the house running itself with no human interaction , the house does everything when there is no one living inside of it. The dog dieing shows that there is now no one left for the house to take care of.

  4. Questions of Meaning:
    2. What kind of people lived in a house that did all the housework and even planned the days? What is the story saying about ourselves without the technology?

A:To me, it seemed like the people in this story that lived in these kind of houses was everyone, for the most part. It seems that the story is saying that humas can not function neaarly as well without the technology.

The reason this image seems to bring images of the end of all human hope is because through out the story we do not see any other living creatures through out the story. But when the dog comes home it is weak and ragged looking. The only living thing left that survived in the story that in a way represents humanity die's.
