I believe they both have really good points of views on language. Baldwin likes the idea that English has changed over time and new words have been brought to light with newer generations , he feels like a lot of new words mean things that words we have now cannot express , while Jones ideas I would say I would have to relate more to and probably agree with his point of view more. Yes people can have 2 or 3 different ways of speaking but I believe you should know when and where is the right time to speak like you’re from the "hood" or you have some kind of education so your audience can take you seriously, I`d like to see if anyone has a response to me I’d be happy to reply
ReplyDeleteThanks Jason J
I agree with Jones more than I do Baldwin as well. I feel like everyone should have a certain standard of writing because it would make things more organized and coherent for a full audience. If everyone were to speak differently, then I feel like it would just make everything confusing. If everyone had that standard, then it would seem more professional as Jason just said. There is a time and place for everything, when you want to be taken seriously then you talk professionally, and when you are with your friends then speak your language.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them have really good points from Baldwins theoryof black English evolved from the need to communicate with each other from the beginning and then evolve to the culture we have today. Jones, as well, delivers great points of view by realizing that if you want to get ahead in this world that has to be a standard way of speaking so everyone can understand each other but in the same token, the way you communicate with your family, friends may not always be with proper English quote on quote.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction on Baldwins and jones arguement towards language would be that I agree with both but slighty more with jones.Baldwin states that using ones language is accepting ones culture in schools as in society.I agree with Baldwin that each of us do have the right to express our culture or root's through language. As for Jones opinion i see where she might be correct by explaining how if one's language were to be used it could cause great confusion with how proper english is taught in schools today.Different words would have to be introduced in order to learn ones language. So in some way there would be no right or wrong way of speaking.Jones stresses the importance of proper english, how it takes your education to higher levels also the only way you could succeed in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Baldwin and jones but more with jones. I agree with Baldwin that languages evolve in Oder to control the circumstances, and that all languages are joined because of the necessity we have to confront life, and that black English was formed by blacks in order for them to communicate and understand each other. Jones makes more of a point because we we all have our own way of speaking but we should try to speak a standard English it's easier to understand each other which makes it easier to be more successful which is the goal in life
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Baldwin and jones on language because they all stresses on the effects of language in the society. According to Baldwin people evolve language in order to describe and thus control their circumstances in other not to be submerged by a situation that they could not articulate. Also, Baldwin talking about the role of language on the people who speak it makes it clear that there are differences between Black English and white English. Jones never challenged Baldwin’s assertion but rather, laid emphasis on the importance of using standardized language in making communication easy to all. Both accepted the fact that a common language that is acceptable to all is essential in communicating meaning to the intended audience.
ReplyDeletei agree with Jones more then i do with Baldwin. Jones had a point when he said we should be our own way but it is true that we should all try to speak standard English. people would be able to accomplish much more because the standard English is the most used language in our society.
ReplyDeletethanks. Steven r.
I agree with both Jones and Baldwin in the sense that they both have really good points. Baldwin's explanation to how modern English fills the holes that standard English leaves on todays more complicated society helps people be more accepting of the more modern or modified English. Jones ideas of the right place at the right time make it possible for people to balance when to use standard English and the more modified versions of it.
ReplyDeletei agree with jones and balwin because they both bring up strong points. Baldwins ideas of how people change and evolve from language depending on their own situation does lead me to believe baldwin. Baldwin also talks about how there are differences between black and white english. Jones on the other hand wants us to speak standard english because it would make everyone communication alot more simplified to all.
ReplyDeleteBoth Baldwin and Jones make a valid point in their argument. Baldwin explains how a person's language is used to express themselves and should always be accepted, while Jones states that proper english teaches and helps you develop yourself and make it easier for you to succeed. I feel that everyone should be able to communicate and speak however best expresses themselves. But I do feel that proper english should always be used, when the situation calls for it such as school, business, or any professional environment.
