Take a look at these videos, and tell me how they change, or complicate your view of intelligence.  Also, if you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts about another concept, or the "the concept essay" write them here.

  1. I think these video clips goes to show thaat there are many forms of intelligence. A person can be great at one thing but be poor at another. Intelligence all comes from the brain. A person has to have a desire to want to learn in order to gain inelligence. That desire helps them gain intelligence of various forms. whether it be singing or wiritng, academic and musical. All of these are forms. They also show that anyone and anything can be intellgent not jus people. Anything that has the ability to make decisions and learn can be considered intelligent. Fish, bacteria, animals, and bird fit that category too.

As far as the essay on concept goes, I think im not the only one who feels this essay is going to be a lil difficult. I personally do not understand what MLA citations are nor how to apply them. I feel like this essay is going to be very hard to get an good grade on lol.

  2. Blog post (#4)

    Questions on meaning

    1) To Stanton "solitude of self," is the realization that at the end of time, and in the face of danger, every man and woman alike stand alone in facing these things. No one is more aquired, or more capable, of handling their own burdens than themselves. Solitude of self is the foundation of we we settle back on when all is said and done.

    2) As a woman of 76, she had exprienced many years of life. She was alive and experiencing the hardships of a woman wanting and trying to gain knowlege. She has seen that failure to know of the world and how it works prevents a person from protecting theirselves, and having the skills to defend themselves is needed. She knows the importance of gaining knowlege and setting a place in society amongst man. Once alone she knows that at the end of her time she has no one but her self to fall back into, no one but herself to to go for her when its her time to go. Her knowledge and experience as a woman who at first wasnt allowed to learn, lived to age where woman can further their education. To learning more even excelling and standing right nex to men in socitey, holding as much importance and position as he. This helped color her perspectives of the importnce of a woman to gain knowlede, and "the solitude of self."

  3. The first video talks about multiple intelligences people have or might have. It talks about how people can be smart in different areas and be considered to be intelligent. The second one explains were intelligence came from. In this case, it shows that it came from bacteria. The third video shows intelligence in the area of music, through a poetry.

  4. I don't feel that the videos have changed my thought of intelligence just further went into them. You can be born with certain intelligence or skills and then again some types of intelligence are a learned process. We are not all intelligent on the same things. Some people have strengths in subjects or areas that others may not. Not saying that makes one smarter they just furthered their knowledge on what they felt might be important to their everyday life. As humans we do have multiple intelligence. I do agree with the fact that intellegence does come from other intelligence.

  5. The videos were great I especially liked the second video. To me intelligence is something that every organism is born with that has been developed through the course of evolution. The fact that animals that don't have knowledge of any type of superior being shows that intelligence is not something that is influenced by an already intelligent being. Intelligence is based on our ancestors experiences and struggles and how they learned to adapt and change the environment around them to further better their own living standards. It's very un-logical to think that you're given intelligence rather then already having it. if that were the case then how do you explain trial and error? If we already have the knowledge we wouldn't have to keep obtaining it.

  6. 1) Staton meaning of "solitude to self" had to do with the equal rights as humans, that man nor woman should be treated in a difference of ways based on gender. The first several paragraphs actually go into detail on "her" rights as a citizen and individual happiness, opportunity and developement. As individuals we rely on ourselves.
    3. My understanding of the use of "protestant" and "republican" dont quite relate to the text, i knoe protestants was almost as a type of religion and republican deals with government and that the power is in the hands of who citizens vote for.
I dont understand how its being used in the text but as republican its a woman's citizenship that should allow her acess to vote not gender.

  7. Watching the 3 videos still doesn't chance my beliefs on intelligence. The first video went into detail about how they dealt with different types of intelligence and smarts and just because you can be intelligent/smart in one thing doesnt mean your always like that with everything and you can be doing well in one topic/subject but not another, but it doesnt mean you're not smart or not intelligent. Intelligence to me is knowledge learned throughout years and being smart is something you already know that you can be better at in certain areas than others or yourself.

  8. Intelligence has different subjects, smiliarly to school. One can be better in math than enlighs, or vise versa. Intelligence is not a fixed concept, it is developed and progressed over time. Neither of these videos have influenced my opinion on the concept of Intelligence and its evolution. I do, however, believe that intelligence has been evolutionized from other intelligence in history. The more we learn, the broader our minds are, influencing us to become more intelligent and knowledgable. Any person can gain intelligence as long as they hold the desire to. Not just people, but animals can gain intelligence. Maybe not the way we can, but by experience and struggle, anyone can learn and gain the knowledge and understand of just about anything.

  9. The videos explain how people could possess or have multiple intelligence, some higher than others in certain cases. In order to gain the knowledge, one must have a desire or be motivated to learn, so they can apply the intelligence in which they've learned. Intelligence isn't natural as the second video says. Being intelligent doesn't mean that you'll be an Albert Einstein in every subject possible. A person could be an excellent at reading and writing literature but not be so good in topics such as Algebra or Biology. Ones knowledge or intelligence could be determined through many things, not just essays or math problems. The videos also claim that intelligence get deeper than just a brain, but rather bacteria that make decisions for the body parts and what not. That bacteria can also smart, not just a human being or animal. What the videos also prove is what everyone's knows or believes, that the brain is the heart and soul of ones intelligence.

  10. The videos were an eye opener to me, I knew that there might have been many forms of intelligence, I just wouldnt have thought of music and art as a form of intelligence morenasna skill. The multi-intelligence theory goes in dept about how there are many different kinds of intelligence. Not just one person is intittled to owning one itelligent. Everyone ranges and observes or learns differently. The second video, was confusing. I know it delt with the history of intelligence, it did complicate my understanding when it stated thoughts of god and religious factors being the creator of intelligence. In my opinion knowledge is anyblearned factor and intelligence is what comes with it. You can be knowledgable of certain things that you might never be intelligent at processing.

  11. the video all have in common the view on intelligence. the first video shows the view on multiple intelligence and one must have the motivation to gain the intelligence and be able to apply what you've learned. then, the second video tells you where intelligence comes
from and how we are all able to gain intelligence. and finally the third video show us how some people take intelligence to the next level ans create music , poetry, ect.

  12. 1. As man or woman we are brought to the earth alone. As a government we should be equally represented as citizens, in diversity of character and education represented as a whole. No one person should be discriminated against. We rely on ourselves and have no sympathy for others. Everything we do is alone, meaning every right man has woman has. This is what Stanton meant by "solitude of self".
    2. The struggles and hardship she delt with to expand woman's suffrage and to revolutionary bring about the fact that woman just as man deserve education and voting rights. Going through life writing novels, articles, books and attending meetings tomteach the woman that they too are just as important as any man. As a 76 year old woman Stanton experienced life at a whole new level, that focused on her perspective on how woman should be treated. Her moral stood hard and strong duringnher lifetime and she stuck by her thoughts.

  13. The videos changed based on what topic they are focusing on. Yes they are all focusing on the overall topic intelligence but they are specifically focusing on a sub title under the whole title of intelligence. I feel intelligence is based on what someone likes. I'm involved in dance and love it. If I were to meet the winner of So You Think You Can Dance I would probably think that person is a genius while someone not involved with dance may think because the winners GPA may be under 3.5 the winner is dumb. Like the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder so is intelligence. Someone is judged to be smart or dumb based on what and the amount of what the person making the judgement knows and doesn't. That would be for a simple black or white, yes or no answer. However as we discussed earlier in the semester there aren't to many answers that can be answered with yes or no. This is an example of one of those questions. This topic would need to be researched and debated for years. Therefore there never really will be a specific answer for what considers someone to be smart or dumb because as time goes on human development continues to change as does society which changes the way people view things which then affect people's opinions on things. Determining whether or not someone is smart or not will always depend on the judge's knowledge first. So when asking the question "is that person smart?" are we asking if the person judging is smart or are we asking if the subject is smart?

  14. I do not feel as though these videos have changed my views on intelligence. I kept an open mind and watched each video but I agree with the first video on multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. I believe that each individual can be intelligent in one specific way or in many types of ways and they can/should be developed through their certain learning styles.
